Familiar Situation

Romania

While boosting my Aegis, I summoned Brandt with a simple mental command. The nearest Scion roared and leapt, reaching for me with its deadly claws.

In a flash of black shadow, Greymalkin slammed into the Scion like a battering ram, sending them flying into a pile of tables and chairs that crunched and splintered beneath them. They thrashed about as black tendrils and furry limbs fought.

Leaving Greymalkin to deal with that one, I aimed at the next nearest and fired Brandt. The revolver barked and bit a huge chunk out of the werewolf. It howled in protest and turned to face me.

All around, fighting broke out as more Scion werewolves burst into the building, followed by a couple of Magi. Silvana threw her Magic at them while Gabriel Rusu backed off.

Would these creatures attack him too?

My question was answered a moment later when the biggest werewolf yet exploded through the rear of the building and jumped on Rusu.

“Shit.”

Adina’s guns fired, while Perry seemed to go full-feral and attacked the wolf closest to her. She was incredibly fast, making it tough to follow what she was doing. All I could see were flashes of her claws, arcing blood and a hopelessly outclassed werewolf.

The Scion I’d shot launched itself at me after dodging left. Concentrating, I used my Kinetic energy and converted it to concentrated flame, infused with Essentia, and sent it rushing towards the furious werewolf. It hit the thing full in the face as I dodged right.

With my left hand engulfed in the Magical fire, ready for me to use it again, I fired Brandt, getting three shots off into the flank of the werewolf. It lashed out and caught me across my torso. I hit the floor and skidded on my side before scrambling to get back to my feet.

An invisible Magical force hit me from out of nowhere and threw me across the room. My Aegis flared as I hit the back wall and landed. It saved me from the worst effects, but I’d be bruised and aching tomorrow… if I lived that long. I pulled myself up and locked eyes with Gabriel Rusu, but they were lifeless eyes, fixed in a grim rictus of pain and terror. Above him, dripping in his blood, the werewolf that attacked him turned to me.

Rusu had fought back, and I could see the wounds on the werewolf’s body but he’d not been strong or creative enough with this Magic.

I raised my hand to fire Brandt, only for the Scion to take a swipe at me. It attempted to knock the weapon from my hand, but Brandt simply disappeared back into the ring as my arm flew sideways, burning with pain.

With a roar, the werewolf pounced. I gritted my teeth, tensing as I waited to be torn a new one.

Black tendrils surged, snapping into place around the Scion and flung him through the wall.

I took a steadying breath as the shadows whipped back into Greymalkin. She meowed at me.
